PARTNER WITH US
The REsource for Advancing Children's Health (REACH) is committed to accelerating the acceptance and
effective use of proven methods that foster children's emotional
and behavioral health. We seek to raise the bar for best practices
in children's therapies, and reduce this time lapse by partnering
with parents, educators, primary care physicians, and mental
health professionals in the process of earlier recognition,
diagnosis and treatment, employing proven therapies and techniques.
We do this by 1) identifying and validating
new therapeutic methods using rigorous research; 2) developing
methods that encourage the effective use of these techniques;
3) forming partnerships with organizations that have a multiplier
effect in getting these new methods into common practice.
These organizational partnerships comprise parents, educators,
primary care physicians and mental health professionals; 4)
enabling and empowering these partners to carry forward the
mission of fostering each of the proven methods and therapies
to reach the largest number of children as quickly as possible.
Unlike many training initiatives, the REACH Institute does not do "hit and run" trainings or CME/CEU programs, i.e., brief workshops with no follow-up or hands-on, sustained support. Such programs have been shown to be ineffective, and unable in bringing about actual changes in clinical practices and procedures. Instead, our training programs adopt a long-term partnership approach, with REACH staff providing support as long as needed, until all the needed skills are mastered by the partners.
Using these strategies,
REACH is now undertaking many exciting initiatives and programs
that will fundamentally change the way children's mental health
is addressed across the country by:
* Identifying and recommending "best practices"
in the field of child mental health
* Educating and informing pediatricians, health providers,
families,
agency leaders, policy-makers and legislators on the most scientifically sound
findings
* Advocating for the adoption of enlightened mental health
standards and teaching parents to advocate for their own child's
mental health care
* Providing training and technical assistance to enable practitioners,
schools, youth serving agencies, and communities implement
state-of-the art, research-supported practices
* Evaluating the effectiveness of these evidence-based assessment
and treatment strategies in real-world settings
* Implementing and evaluating comprehensive, integrated approaches that combine all of the strategies, often within special settings such as school-based mental health clinics, child welfare, juvenile justice, or primary care setttings
Our mission is more vital now that it has
ever been, yet we cannot do it alone. We need your support
to help us make a difference in the lives of the children
and families we serve. If you are interested in exploring
ways to bring the latest scientific advances for children
to your community or organization, contact Peter S. Jensen, M.D., at training@thereachinstitute.org.
Similarly, if you are a scientist or treatment developer and would like to ensure that your scientifically proven methods reach children and families all across the country, we are eager to partner with you in the training and dissemination of your programs. Contact Peter S. Jensen, M.D., at partner@thereachinstitute.org for more details.
